This time we are going to share our experience during our Tripura Mission. Our medical mission in Tripura was organised in partnership with the Tripura Medical College and Hospital and organised at Dr BRAM Teaching Hospital of Tripura Medical College, Tripura. Four days between 21st to 25th April 2021, we screened 60 children born with deformed palate or lip. Our mission was to deliver free cleft lip and cleft palate surgeries to as many children and young adults of Tripura as possible.
Our mission brought many kids to access health checks up. We conducted fifty-one cleft rectification surgeries and screened sixty children during a four-day comprehensive surgical cleft camp. Our team included plastic surgeons, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, Anaesthesiologists, Nurse, Clinical Coordinators, Technicians, Camp coordinators and Volunteers.
These camps were free and open to all members of the local population. Dr BRAM Teaching Hospital of Tripura Medical College provided all the micro and on-the-ground support for volunteers during the medical camp. They covered all the logistics, including transportation, clean drinking water, food, accommodations, medical examination, surgery, and medicines. After the surgeries, the patients have received free post-operative care.
These camps provide a one-of-a-kind opportunity and provide free cleft lip and palate surgery. Many children with cleft palates live in solitude in India and have difficulty swallowing, breathing, and communicating. We are trying to provide free medical treatment to these vulnerable kids.
We sincerely thank Mr Kangkan Pathak, Dr Hiteswar Sarma, Arem Chiru, and all our partners, well-wishers, contributors, volunteers, and support staff from TMCH for their unconditional support during our mission.
Above all, we are grateful for your responsiveness and generosity, which ensures we can continue to offer the very best of services to these kids even through this difficult period.
