In the heart of a small village nestled in the lush hills of Assam, the Teron family welcomed their son, Chething, into the world. But their joy quickly dimmed when they saw Chething’s cleft lip deformity. Their sorrow deepened as they realized they couldn’t afford the costly surgeries needed to correct his condition. To protect Chething from the whispers and bullying of others, Harlongki and Rekha avoided taking him to family functions or public events, fearing that people would either whisper behind their backs or pull their own children away.
Fortunately, one of their relatives, an ASHA worker, informed them about the Guwahati Comprehensive Cleft Care Centre (GC4), which is one of India’s largest free cleft care centers run by us, Mission Smile. With nothing to lose and everything to gain, Harlongki and Rekha embarked on a journey to GC4, clinging to the hope of a brighter future for their son.
Chething underwent a transformative surgery at GC4 that seemed like a miracle. When the bandages were finally removed, revealing his new smile, tears of joy flowed freely down Harlongki and Rekha’s cheeks. Thanks to Mission Smile and the dedicated team at GC4, Chething’s life was changed forever.
When the family came for a follow-up checkup, we asked them about their current situation. They shared that they are now extremely confident in taking Chething out, and their neighbors are shocked by his incredible transformation. They expressed their immense gratitude to us, Mission Smile.
