‘If you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours’
Mission Smile does not confine itself in operating from its base in West Bengal and Assam. It reaches out to Pan India. The mission is to spread beautiful smiles for those born with cleft lips and cleft palates.
Our team organised a mission in Vadodara, Gujarat, on 18th January 2020. The cleft surgeries took place between 19th to 23rd January. Muthoot Pappachan Foundation supported us financially. We used Isha Hospital’s infrastructure to complete our mission at Vadodara. The camp was to gift new smiles to at least 50 cleft-affected patients in Gujarat.
We screened 110 patients on the first day. 56 patients turned out to be suitable for surgery. They underwent safe surgeries with excellent outcomes at our doctors’ capable hands. These children and their families returned home with their hopes lifted and hearts lighter. They have now beautiful smiling face to show to the world.
A small Inaugural Function, on the 19th of January 2020, marked our journey to spread smiles in Gujarat. Smt Ranjanben Bhatt, the Member of Lok Sabha, Vadodara Constituency, graced the camp. She officially inaugurated the mission. Other dignitaries present were Isha Hospital’s Directors, CEO of Muthoot Microfin Ltd, Head CSR of Muthoot Pappachan Foundation. From Mission Smile, the CMO was present. In her speech, Smt Bhatt acknowledged all the stake-holders for their whole-hearted cooperation in organising this free camp.
Our small steps towards a cleft-free India are never complete without the participation of our medical and non-medical volunteers. They join from across the globe to participate. Our 50-member Team comprised of Plastic Surgeons, Anaesthesiologists, Paediatricians, Dentists, Speech Therapists, Nurses, and Non-Medical Volunteers. They were from India and the Philippines. This was a mission worth mentioning.
