‘A Mile for Smile’ Walkathon Raises Cleft Awareness in the City of Joy

We organized the ‘A Mile for Smile’ Walkathon in Kolkata on 17th March 2019, at Red Road (near Brigade parade ground). This was to mark the completion of our 100th Mission. We completed the delivery of over 38000 cleft surgeries to children across the nation,

The event got a wide promotion across the city through on-ground activation and hoarding campaigns. The promotion was also through social media to register maximum visibility and registration (event sign-ups). We got over 200 registrations through an online campaign. 150 more enthusiasts and supporters joined on the spot!

It was a bright sunny Sunday morning of March 17th,  2019, at 7.30 am.  The Walkathon was flagged off with spirited youngsters leading the way. Celebrities including actor Sudip Mukherjee, singer-actor Arindam Ganguly, eminent artist Atin Basak, singer Sayani Palit, and music director Prajna Dutta too joined in. All walked ‘A Mile for a Smile’ with us!

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Mr Donald White- Trustee, Love Without Boundaries Foundation, to participate in ‘A Mile for Smile’ Walkathon and share his encouraging words with the participants. We also thank Mr K C Hessa, Head Eastern Zone, New India Assurance Company, for coming and walking with us. Many Thanks to Dr Anjana Malhotra, Trustee – Mission Smile, (Retd.) Col. Shivaji Samaddar, ex COO-Mission Smile and all the staff, medical and non-medical volunteers for participating in the walkathon.

The event received huge local media attention, and most newspapers and TV channels and online news portals carried the news of ‘A Mile for Smile’ Walkathon, thereby fulfilling our objective to raise awareness about cleft and it’s free available treatment.
