For a child born with a cleft lip or palate, even life’s simplest joys, like feeding, speaking, or smiling, can become a daily struggle.
Beyond medical challenges, cleft conditions often bring deep emotional and social burdens, shaped by misunderstanding and stigma.
Cleft in India: The Reality
- 1 in 700 live births
- Over 35,000 Clefts are born every year
- 1 in 10 children born with cleft dies due to severe malnutrition
- An estimated backlog of 1 million untreated clefts

Our Flagship Centre
Guwahati Comprehensive Cleft Care Centre (GC4)
Mission Smile has created a Unique Public Private Partnerships in collaboration with the Government of Assam and National Health Mission towards creating a ‘Cleft Free’ Assam.
Our Guwahati Comprehensive Cleft Care Centre is a state-of-the-art facility which was inaugurated in February 2011 by then Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam, Shri. Tarun Gogoi, in the presence of the Hon’ble Ex- Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Hemanta Biswa Sarma and Shri Ranjit Barthakur (Chairman Mission Smile).
