Smile Stories
Healing Clefts, Healing Hearts
Arohi’s Journey of Hope and Reunion
Jaya Das took a bold step early in life—leaving home after class 8 to pursue a love marriage with Soumitra Biswas. Their dreams of a happy life were soon challenged when their daughter Arohi was born with a bilateral cleft lip.
Instead of support, Jaya faced blame. Her husband’s family rejected both mother and child, forcing them to seek shelter at Jaya’s maternal home in Krishna Ganj, Nadia, West Bengal.
But Jaya’s strength as a mother never wavered. She connected with Mission Smile through one of our camps and was invited for free surgery during our mission in West Bengal. With the support of the Muthoot Pappachan Foundation, Arohi received life-changing cleft lip surgery, performed by our expert medical team.
Seeing her daughter’s transformed face brought tears of joy to Jaya’s eyes. The change also softened hearts—her husband and his family, once distant, warmly welcomed them back.
Today, Arohi’s smile is not just a symbol of medical success—it’s a symbol of unity and hope. With the help of organizations like Muthoot, Mission Smile is not only healing clefts—we’re healing hearts and reuniting families.
Priyanshi’s New Smile, A New Beginning
Little Priyanshi Patra, just 6 months old, was born with a cleft lip in Kendujhar district, Odisha. Her parents, Chittaranjan and Mamata Patra, were deeply worried but never lost hope. They came to know about our Cleft Care Surgical Mission at Christian Hospital, Berhampur — organized by Mission Smile — through NHM, Odisha, with whom we have an official MoU under the Government of Odisha.
Traveling all the way from Dumriguda, they reached the camp with faith in their hearts. There, Priyanshi underwent a successful surgery that beautifully transformed her smile — and her future.
Her mother shared with tears of joy,
“Thank you to everyone who supported us in healing my baby completely.”
Rishan’s Smile Shines Bright
Little Rishan Sarkar from West Bengal was born with a unilateral cleft lip, a condition that left his family deeply worried about his future. But hope came in the form of Mission Smile’s Cleft Care Surgical Mission in Kolkata, supported by the Muthoot Pappachan Foundation.
At the mission, Rishan underwent a successful surgery, performed by our expert team of surgeons. His cleft lip is now completely healed, and so is the worry in his parents’ hearts.
Today, Rishan smiles with confidence, just like every child deserves to. His parents are filled with gratitude—for the care, the compassion, and the second chance given to their son.
With the continued support of organizations like Muthoot, Mission Smile is not just changing faces—but changing lives.
Samar’s Smile Journey: From Remote Odisha to a New Beginning
In a quiet, remote village of Ganjam district, Odisha, little Samar Gouda was born with a unilateral cleft lip. With no access to proper cleft care nearby, his parents, Santosh and Sonali Gouda, were unsure where to turn for help.
Thankfully, with the support of RBSK Odisha, our outreach team connected with Samar’s family and brought them to our Cleft Care Centre in Berhampur.
There, under the care of our expert medical team, Samar underwent a safe and successful cleft surgery. Today, he is healthy, happy, and smiling with confidence — a beautiful reminder that even in the most remote corners, hope can find a way.
