We are glad to share the completion of our 3rd Mission in ESIC Medical College and Hospital in Gulbarga, Karnataka. It took place from 11th to 17th August 2018. A team of 35 medical and non-medical volunteers worldwide participated in our mission. They worked shoulder to shoulder with the ESIC hospital staff & medical students, and Muthoot Fincorp Ltd’s volunteers. The objective was to bring smiles to 47 cleft afflicted children and young adults of the region.
INAUGURATION
The inauguration of the mission was on 12th August in the gracious presence of Dr Prasanth Punipagar (DEAN, ESIC Medical College, and Hospital). Other dignitaries present were:

Col. Shivaji Samaddar (Retd.) (COO, Mission Smile),
Dr Prasanthkumar Nellickal (Head CSR – Muthoot Pappachan Foundation),
Shri Dalip Pande (Director Partnerships, Mission Smile).
Many of our volunteers & well-wishers were also present.
In total, we screened 78 patients and successfully delivered 47 smiles in just three surgery days. After one week of the mission, we organised a post-operative check-up camp. This was for the beneficiaries who received their surgeries. It was heartening to register 79% (37) turnouts at the post-op review camp.
1ST NUTRITION PROGRAM PATIENTS OPERATED AT GULBARGA MISSION
For the first time, a nutrition program culminated with the cleft beneficiaries (nutrition patients). Muthoot Pappachan Foundation rendered its support. The beneficiaries received their much-needed surgeries at the Gulbarga Mission. A nine-month schedule of counselling, parental guidance, health monitoring, and exceptional support for the patients followed. Total 7 nutrition patients (under the nutrition program) were operated on in the Gulbarga Mission. After their coming up to the acceptable standards, cleft surgery was done. We are hopeful that this new initiative (nutrition program) supported by MPF will help several other cleft beneficiaries who need urgent nutrition support in the future.
